Get paid to go rock hunting.
Film real rock hunts with the Rarestone beta app and help teach it to spot stones from standing height. Every accepted 30-minute session pays $40 by Venmo.
How it works
You hunt the way you normally would. The app records what it sees; you upload it here.
Get the beta app
Install Rarestone from TestFlight (link below). In Settings → Creator tools, turn on both switches.
Hunt for 30+ minutes
Tap the record button on the scan screen and walk real ground: beaches, creek beds, gravel bars, trails. Pick up anything interesting.
Upload & get paid
Upload the videos to a session here, submit it with your Venmo, and we pay within a few days of review.
What we're looking for
Phone at waist height, tilted at the ground a few steps ahead, walking slowly over real rocky ground.

✕ Not acceptedChecklist for an accepted session
- 30+ minutes of video in the session (can be several clips, up to 100).
- Real rocky ground: beach, creek bed, gravel bar, trail, road cut, quarry edge.
- Waist height, tilted down, walking slowly in daylight.
- New places help most. Mix it up across your sessions.
- No other people's faces, license plates or private property without permission.
- Film only. Don't take rocks where collecting isn't allowed (many parks ban it).
Which files to upload
- Open the Files app → On My iPhone → Rarestone → Sessions → your hunt's folder. Upload
camera.mp4andevents.jsonl. - Also upload the screen recording from your Photos (saved when you tapped stop).
- Only the videos count toward the 30 minutes. Do it on Wi-Fi: a 30-minute hunt is about 3 GB.
